Our Story

Better restroom access, wherever life takes you.

Diamond In The Ruff is building a simpler way to discover clean, safe, and accessible restroomsβ€”while creating new opportunities for local businesses to serve their communities.

Finding a restroom should not be stressful.

Diamond In The Ruff began with a simple, everyday frustration: finding a clean and dependable restroom while away from home can be surprisingly difficult.

Public restrooms may be unavailable, difficult to locate, or unpredictable. At the same time, many local businesses have private facilities that could provide valuable access through a secure and organized system.

We created Diamond In The Ruff to bring those options together in one easy-to-use place.

A common problem deserves a better solution.

Our platform is designed to help visitors make informed choices while allowing participating businesses to offer secure restroom access.

🚻

The problem

People often spend unnecessary time searching for a restroom, only to discover that a location is closed, unavailable, inaccessible, or not in acceptable condition.

πŸ’Ž

Our solution

Diamond In The Ruff combines free public restrooms and participating private locations on one map, with helpful details about access, pricing, and quality.

Built around trust, dignity, and convenience.

From payment to unlocked door β€” in seconds.

No shared keys, no waiting on staff. Here's exactly how a private location goes from "pay" to "you're in."

1

Pay securely

Choose a private location and complete checkout through our secure payment processor. No account or app download required.

2

Get your code

The moment payment clears, you're issued a unique 4-digit access code and a matching QR pass, valid for a limited entry window. Both work β€” use whichever is easiest.

3

Unlock the door β€” your way

Every access point supports two ways in, so you're never stuck if one method isn't available:

πŸ”’ Push-Button Code Entry

Enter your 4-digit code on the keypad at the door. No signal or battery on your phone? This always works.

πŸ“² Touchless Entry

Tap your phone against the NFC reader, or hold your QR pass up to the scanner. No typing required.

4

Exit locks it behind you

Once your session ends, the door automatically re-locks. Your code expires and can't be reused, so the next guest gets a clean, secure start too.

πŸ”’ A manual lock, just for you

While you're inside, a standard manual lock on the interior lets you secure the door yourself β€” completely independent of the code system β€” for privacy and peace of mind during your visit.

⏱️

Time-limited

Codes only work for a short entry window, so access stays tied to your visit.

πŸ”

Single use

Once used to enter and exit, a code can't be reused by anyone else.

πŸ™‹

No staff needed

Get in and out on your own schedule β€” no waiting for someone to let you in.

Whether it's free or private, pricing is always upfront.

Whether you're looking for a free public restroom or a premium private location, Diamond In The Ruff helps you find the best option nearby.

Private Restroom Pricing by Diamond Rank

Price is set by diamond rank, not by the restroom owner directly β€” ranks 1 through 4 are fixed. 5-diamond locations are uncapped, with pricing set by the owner and approved by our team.

⚑ Surge Pricing

Just like ride-share apps, prices on 1–4 diamond restrooms can temporarily increase during periods of unusually high demand. This helps keep restrooms available rather than overwhelmed during a rush. 5-diamond restrooms are unaffected β€” their price is already set by the owner.

πŸ“ˆ Traffic Spike

Surge kicks in automatically when a restroom's usage in the last hour runs 50% or more above its normal average β€” a real, short-term jump in demand, not a one-off use.

πŸŽ‰ Area Crowd

Surge also kicks in automatically when most restrooms within a short walk are in use at the same time β€” an organic sign that something nearby (a concert letting out, a festival, a big local event) is driving demand across the whole area. Nobody declares this β€” it's detected purely from real-time supply and demand.

When surge pricing is active, the price is increased by up to 1.5Γ— the normal tier price. You'll always see the final price before you pay β€” surge pricing is never applied after checkout.

Surge pricing exists to keep high-demand restrooms available and well-maintained instead of overwhelmed, not to maximize revenue. It automatically turns off once demand returns to normal.

Why do some restrooms cost money?

Private businesses spend time and money keeping their restrooms clean, stocked, and available. Your payment helps compensate participating businesses while supporting restroom maintenance and a better experience for everyone.

Do I need a subscription?

No. Diamond In The Ruff has no monthly membership. You only pay when you choose to access a participating private restroom. Public restrooms are always free.

What if there's a problem?

If you experience an issue with a participating restroom, you can report it directly through the app. Our team reviews reports and works with our partners to maintain high-quality restroom experiences.

Access is intended to be temporary. The exact expiration time should be displayed with your pass or purchase confirmation, so review those details before visiting.

After a successful purchase, the website can provide a temporary access code or digital pass. Follow the instructions shown with the pass when you arrive.

Use the Report an Issue option on the location page and provide as much detail as possible. You may also contact our team for help with an access or payment concern.

Diamond Scores are designed to help visitors understand overall restroom quality. As the platform develops, scores may reflect factors such as cleanliness, safety, accessibility, amenities, and visitor feedback.

Restroom Etiquette

Every restroom on Diamond In The Ruff is shared space β€” here's how to leave it as good as (or better than) you found it, for whoever uses it next.

A little courtesy goes a long way in a shared restroom. These guidelines apply to everyone, regardless of which fixtures you use β€” the goal is simple: leave it clean, leave it stocked, and leave it the way you'd want to find it.
πŸšͺ

Before You Go

  • Check the map for the location's current status β€” skip it if it's marked In Use or Cleaning.
  • Bring tissue or hand sanitizer if you have it, in case supplies are low.
  • If a paid location, have your access code or QR pass ready.
  • Be patient β€” if someone's ahead of you, give them space and time.
🧻

During Your Visit

  • Use toilet paper and paper towels efficiently β€” take what you need, not more.
  • Keep the floor and surfaces dry; wipe up any splashes.
  • Keep noise, calls, and speakerphone use to a minimum.
  • Avoid bringing in food, drinks, or strong odors where you can help it.
  • Lock the door fully so the space reads correctly as occupied.
βœ…

Before You Leave

  • Flush completely and confirm it cleared.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap for at least 20 seconds.
  • Throw away trash in the bin provided β€” never in the toilet.
  • Take your belongings with you, and turn off the tap fully.
  • Notice a problem? Use Report an Issue on your way out so it gets fixed fast.

By Fixture

🚽 Toilets

  • Use a seat cover or liner if one's provided, and dispose of it after.
  • Wipe the seat down if it's visibly wet or soiled.
  • Put the seat β€” and lid, if there is one β€” back down after you flush.
  • Flush once, and only put toilet paper (not wipes or other items) in the bowl.

🧍 Urinals

  • Where multiple urinals are available, leave a gap from other users if possible.
  • Aim carefully to keep the surrounding area dry and clean.
  • Flush every time, even if the urinal appears to be self-flushing.

🧼 Sinks

  • Wash hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water.
  • Wipe down the counter if you splashed water around it.
  • Turn the tap off fully β€” a dripping faucet wastes water and can be reported as an issue.
  • Use paper towels or the dryer provided; avoid leaving wet towels on the counter.

Shared spaces, shared responsibility: whether it's a free public restroom or a paid private location, someone else is using it right after you. A restroom that's respected stays available longer, stays cleaner, and keeps costs down for everyone β€” including the businesses generous enough to share theirs through our partner program.

Our mission

To make dependable restroom access easier for visitors while giving local businesses a secure, practical way to participate and earn from every approved visit.
